About the Fellowship

The fellowship is an advanced training program in Minimally Invasive and Robotic Cardiac Surgery and aims to complement the initial training of the Cardiovascular Surgeon, introducing them to the most modern areas of practice in the specialty: minimally invasive and robotic surgery.

Who is it for?

Cardiovascular surgeons with completed residency accredited by the MEC (Brazilian Ministry of Education) or holders of a Specialist Title in Cardiovascular Surgery (AMB – Brazilian Medical Association).

*Cardiovascular Surgery residents who will complete their course by February 2026 may participate in this selection process with a letter signed by the Head of Service and the Head of the Medical Residency Commission (COREME) proving their affiliation. If approved, they may only enroll upon proof of completion of their residency.

Qualification obtained

At the end of the course, after presentation of a final project and performance evaluation, the student will receive a certificate of Advanced Training in Minimally Invasive and Robotic Cardiac Surgery.

Objectives

By the end of the course, the student will be able to:

  • To identify patients who are candidates for minimally invasive and robotic cardiac surgery.
  • Preparing surgical access points for minimally invasive and robotic cardiac surgery.
  • To work in the pre-, intra-, and post-operative phases of patients undergoing minimally invasive and robotic cardiac surgery.

Program and Methodology

The course consists of internships totaling 2080 hours, with a minimum attendance of 40 hours per week in the surgical center, ICU, outpatient clinic, and intra-hospital rounds, as well as participation in cardiac surgery/cardiology meetings at the hospitals where the group operates.

Graduated in Medicine from the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná (1992), Residency in Cardiovascular Surgery at the Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Curitiba (1993-1996) and Master’s degree in Medicine (Surgical Clinic) from the Federal University of Paraná (2000). Specialist and Certified in Cardiovascular Surgery by the Brazilian Society of Cardiovascular Surgery, Specialization in Cardiothoracic Surgery from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (USA – 1997). Currently a Cardiovascular Surgeon and Director of the Poffo Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery.
